91 gangway systems for the Metro of the Olympic City 2028 - Train manufacturer Hyundai Rotem commissions HÜBNER

When the Olympic and Paralympic Games take place in Los Angeles in 2028, HÜBNER products will help to transport the many visitors comfortably and safely: The South Korean rail vehicle manufacturer Hyundai Rotem has ordered 91 gangway systems from the HÜBNER Group. They will be installed in trains that will be manufactured for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).

Increasing comfort and transport capacity

The two-car HR5000 vehicles each have a capacity of 245 passengers. In total, Hyundai Rotem produces 182 cars for the future continuous Metro trains in Los Angeles.

Gangway systems from HÜBNER offer the best conditions for this. They allow passengers to switch back and forth between the train parts, thus increasing comfort and transport capacity. This is because each of the new trains can be coupled with two more. This creates additional flexibility to adapt transport capacities to demand at short notice. Unlike in other parts of the world, gangways between individual cars are not yet so common in the USA.

New vehicles just in time for the Olympic Games

“The fact that Hyundai Rotem has opted for our gangway systems gives us a great opportunity: We can prove the quality and reliability of HÜBNER and make a contribution to Los Angeles being a good host as an Olympic city in 2028,” says Ryan Bauer, Director of Sales at HUBNER USA. Hyundai Rotem had to guarantee the metro operator LACMTA that the new trains would be ready for use in time for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The gangway systems will be designed by HUBNER USA at the site in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and manufactured at the site in Dunlap, Tennessee. Production is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2025. Each gangway system consists of a pressure-stable and pressure-tight double corrugated bellows with combi-bridge that ensures gap-free and step-free movement compensation on the vehicle floor.
